If design is my second love, it’s because reading is my first. Luckily, reading is what brought design into my life. At my first college internship, I was handed:
I can’t lie to you, I thought these books were the....
These books gave me the first design thinking framework for my career and I have since been guided by the ideas of bias towards action and continuous customer learning.
The design thinking lens has proven useful to me in each setting I’ve worked at - hospitals, a large FinTech enterprise, and an early stage AdTech start up.
In my client facing roles, I have honed my ability to glean business insights from customers while providing empathy and attentiveness to their concerns. By marrying these insights with data and visualization, I have been able to drive better solutions and communicate with more impact with users and stakeholders. With this realization, I am now focused on my design skillset.
As the world becomes more technologically complex, I’m certain those with the ability to create intuitive visual solutions will dominate. My goal as a designer is to diminish friction between people and the technological tools they leverage to drive joyful use. I love the problem solving involved to ensure that solutions serve as a win-win for both the customer and the business.
Outside of work, I’m currently focused on running longer distances, improving my flexibility (so the running doesn’t injure me...again), and thinking through the current state of dating and interpersonal connection with Get Cuffed (which is the motivation behind the current slew of books I’m reading - shall we talk Bell Hooks?).
